Queen's Micro-Credit Challenge

One Team | One Hundred Dollars | One Idea to Change a Life

Welcome to the Queen’s Micro Credit Challenge 2012! We had an extremely successful competition this year from March 7 - 14. This year, we had twice as many teams sign up to compete, a true sign that this competition is becoming bigger and better each year. In just one week, the competitors managed to raise over $2500 for Kiva, an incredible achievement. This amount served to double the current amount in QMCC’s Kiva portfolio, and the executive cannot wait to begin lending it out to various entrepreneurs.

The winning team of the competition this year was a team of first year students, with by team leader Irene Cheng. The team consisted group members; Tiffany Ng, Flora Chiang, Lilian Chen, and their Queen’s School of Business mentor, Ralph Yeung. These entrepreneurs had the very innovative idea of creating personalized shot glasses, and managed to raise a new QMCC record amount of profits, over $1000.

The second place team, raising over $400, was led by 2nd year student, Amy Zhong, along her with team members Yuki Micha Djaja, Massimo Ianniruberto, Lana Zhou, and their QSB mentor, Keith Rogers. This team had a multitude of ideas, including Tetris tournaments and cupcake sales at Goodes Hall.

Our “Most Innovative” award was presented to Team 3, consisting of leader, Daniel Smith, and team members, Salman Sajid, Vincent Jiang, Tanya Rossa. Their QSB mentor was Ceren Kolsarici. This team's idea was to build a website for people who want to build their e-resumes.

The QMCC executive would like to thank everyone that took part in QMCC 2012 and hope to see you all back next year!
